OUR TRAILS

DUN MOUNTAIN TRAIL/COPPERMINE (43KM)
There are several great things bout this trail: it’s super easy to get to from Nelson City, it’s a loop trail, it only takes one day to do, it offers incredible views, and has one of the longest downhill mountain bike sections in the country.

The Dun Mountain Trail requires you to be able to take on a intermediate to advanced track (grade 3 and grade 4). Access to the track is at Brook Street, just 2.7km from Nelson City centre.

RAMEKA TRACK (19KM)
Navigate the goblin forests and limestone features, which are all inland in the Abel Tasman National Park. You’ll literally ride through The Hobbit filming locations in the Canaan Downs. The first half of the track is a challenge over rocks and river crossings, but the rest of the route is pretty easygoing. This is a one-way trail so you’ll need to organise transport.

CODGERS MTB PARK
The Codgers Mountain Bike Park is handily placed in the heart of Nelson and contains a wide range of mountain bike trails, from easy meandering single track for beginners and families to enjoy to full on double black downhill trails best left to the experts. The trails are based around three hills, with the summits rising to approximately 400m.

KAITERITERI MTB PARK
Part of the Kaiteriteri Recreation Reserve and gateway to the world renowned Abel Tasman National Park, the Kaiteriteri Mountain Bike Park offers great riding for all abilities in a stunning and unique setting.

NELSON LAKES
Mountain biking around Nelson Lakes includes Teetotal Recreation Area, Mount Robert Road, Beebys Knob,Red Hills,
Rotoroa, Glenroy valley, Matakitaki valley

INVOLUTION/BARNICOAT
Involution is a intermediate-difficulty single track that descends from the top of Barnicoat Range into Marsden Valley, behind Stoke. Opened in 2010, its construction was a collaborative effort between DOC, Nelson City Council, Nelson Mountain Bike Club and the Department of Corrections. Involution passes through beautiful native bush the whole way down, and is the second-longest continuously descending singletrack within close range of any city in New Zealand (nearby Te Ara Koa is the longest).

RICHMOND HILLS
The trail network in Richmond Hills is a great place to ride if you like fun, flowing grade 3+ trails. Easily accessed from Easeby Park, off Marlborough Cresent, there is a grade 3 climbing track that takes you up to the main skid site. There is also fire road access from the end of Lodestone Road. From here you can take one of several grade 3/4 descending trails such as Loadstone Gully, or Bermed Monster.

HIRA FOREST/SHARLAND TRAILS
Running the length of the valley there are easy fire road climbs that link several fantastic downhill trails. From the top, at around 600 metres, there is a continuous single track route that runs for over 11km incorporating R&R, Wiggles, Waggles, Waterloo, What the DoCtor ordered, and Willow Lane back to the forest entrance. The trails get gradually easier as you move down the hill, with R&R being grade 4+ and finishing with the grade 2 Willow Lane.

Off the main route are two of Nelson’s finest technical trails – SuppleJack and Rimu, which link back onto the main trail network. Also in the area is Ching’s Highway, a downhill grade 3 that drops 400m.

There are also three downhill specific trails in this area, Maitai Face, Kaka and Broken Axe. All are grade 5.
